We are so incredibly grateful to you — our generous supporters and donors of A Child’s Notebook. We are proud to share our mid-year update with you on what we have accomplished by working with local villagers, teachers, students and parents in Laos. Thank you for believing in our important work to change lives through education.
Numbers of Students Helped Is Far Reaching
We have reached 36 schools (25 primary, nine middle and two high schools) and have served 3,580 students, 49 percent of whom are girls. Most of the schools are in extremely poor rural areas of northern Laos, where the majority of communities are an ethnic minority group, the Khmu people.
Scholarships Provided to 465 Students!
Our scholarships are based on the needs of the family and many in Laos don’t have money to pay for school or necessary suppliers. Our scholarship is $9.50 per student per month, as long as they stay in school and have a passing grade.
Critical Infrastructure Project Completed
- New dormitory for Sokxay middle school is complete, serving more than 150 students from nine villages.
- The Muang high school building, with its beautiful paint job, is complete.
- Final touches are being done on the new Khone Lang middle school building that will bring it to completion.
Next Focus Areas are Middle School Dormitories
We are starting work on the dormitories for Mokkohang and Teng Vang middle schools with the goal to finish in time for students who are returning to school in September. Dormitories are especially important for girls to continue to study and have a safe place to stay.
